How to play
Guess the railway station from a photo. Here's everything you need to know.
The basics
1. See a station
You get a photo of a real railway station. The station name and other giveaway text is blurred out.
2. Drop a pin
Study the platform, signage and surroundings, then place your guess on the map and lock it in.
3. Score by distance
The closer your pin, the more points. A round is worth 500: 450 for accuracy and 50 for a fast guess. Six rounds make a game, so a perfect one is 3,000.
Scoring
A round is worth 500 points
450 points for how close your pin lands, plus up to 50 more for guessing quickly. The speed bonus is pure upside: taking your time never costs you points, it just leaves those 50 on the table.
500 × 6 rounds = 3,000 for a perfect game
Easy has no clock, so there is no speed bonus to chase: all 500 points come from accuracy instead. A perfect game is 3,000 on every map and every difficulty.
Closer is worth much more
Points fall away steeply as your pin moves off the real station. What counts is not the raw distance but the distance measured against the size of the map you picked.
The same miss on three maps
Accuracy points for a single round, at identical distances, on maps of very different sizes.
| Missed by | Switzerland | Germany | United States |
|---|---|---|---|
| On the station | 450 | 450 | 450 |
| 10 km | 394 | 424 | 444 |
| 50 km | 231 | 333 | 422 |
| 200 km | 31 | 136 | 347 |
A 50 km miss costs you half a Switzerland round but barely dents a United States round: every map is scored against its own size.
World and continent maps: find the country first
On the World map, landing in the right country is worth 50% of your accuracy points (40% on a continent map). The rest is scored exactly like that country's own map, so a precise pin still pays.
| Missed by | Right country | Wrong country |
|---|---|---|
| 10 km | 437 | 436 |
| 50 km | 392 | 386 |
| 200 km | 293 | 271 |
| 1,000 km | – | 137 |
A station in Germany, played on the World map. Outside the right country the country share shrinks with distance instead of vanishing, so a near miss just across a border still scores well.
